Event Helps Riders Prepare for Finals

Clinician and USEF official, Diane Carney reviews riders' performances to help them prepare for finals. 

Long Grove, IL, September 9, 2019 –  The annual Galway Farm Classic wrapped up Sunday with feedback from USEF licensed official Diane Carney after riders competed in the Galway Equitation Classic and the Galway Hunter Derby. The competition followed two clinic days with Carney to polish riders' performances for any upcoming finals they plan to attend. Galway Farm with trainers Lorrie Canady and Molly McAdow host the event at their facility in Long Grove, Illinois, providing education and plenty of hospitality during the weekend.

Riders took to the ring with braided horses and show attire to practice finals type courses and pressure. Carney provided commentary on each of the rounds on video and also reviewed the class results so trainers and riders could hear tips and details to improve scores. 


Molly Canfield was a big winner with Gameboy, earning the top call in the High Equitation Classic and the High Hunter Derby.

Canfield took home a Walsh halter and an RJ Classic shirt for the wins. Jenna Wedemeyer Designs sponsored the Best Turned Out Award which included a certificate from Equitouch and an Equo sunshirt. Canfield rides with Canady and will head to the Illinois Hunter Jumper Association (IHJA) Medal Finals, the ASPCA Finals and the Dover USEF Medal Finals.

Isabelle Collister and Whoopert Z earned the top score in the Low Equitation Classic. Collister rides with Laura Stern and plans to ride in the IHJA Children's Medal Finals.


Jackie Stary rode Quidado to the win in the Low Hunter Derby.

Jackie Stary lead the victory gallop in the Low Hunter Derby on Quidado. Stary rode to the Grand Champion Large Pony title at the Las Vegas National Horse Show in 2018 with trainer Tina Judge Boyle of Oswego, Illinois, and will be riding in the IHJA Medal Finals next week.


Ellianna Kirson was awarded the Most Improved Rider Award.

More awards were handed out to recognize additional rider efforts. Elliana Kirson earned the Most Improved Rider Award, which included an equine massage from Unbridled Equine and a new sunshirt from Equo. Kirson rode Come Alive and trains with Katie Kappler, who won the Trainer Award. At just 14-years-old, Kirson qualified for the National Horse Show Hamel Medal Finals.

Cat Miller and Kelly O'Bryan earned the Sportsmanship Award. 

Cat Miller and Kelly O'Bryan ride at Galway Farm and earned the Sportsmanship Award. Miller received a CWD breastplate and designer bracelets from JMK Designs while O'Bryan took home an endless supply of Pouwer Patties for her horse. Both riders are qualified for the IHJA Adult Mini-Medal Finals.


Ashley Scofield was awarded The Judge's Choice Award, courtesy of View Halloo.

The Judge's Choice Award went to Ashley Scofield, who rides with Tina Judge Boyle at Judgement Farm. Scofield took home a selection of quality products from View Halloo. Scofield will take what she learned from the clinic into the fall season where she is qualified for many of the major medal finals, the NCEA Medal Finals and the Marshall & Sterling Finals.


Delaney Hoffman was recognized for being a team player and a fantastic volunteer.

The final award went to Delaney Hoffman who rides at Kinvarra Farm in St. Charles, Illinois. Hoffman was recognized for being a team player and volunteering to assist and set jumps all weekend. Hoffman rode her horse Salvo to the second place spot in the High Equitation Classic as well. Hoffman is qualified for most of the major medal finals as well as the NCEA Medal Final and the IHJA Medal Finals.

The group enjoyed an amazing Champagne Brunch courtesy of Galway Farm during Sunday's events and a Mexican Fiesta Saturday evening with guest speaker Cathy Penrod, Performance Specialist. Penrod specializes in helping riders break through internal barriers, overcome fear, conquer nerves, and take their performance to the next level using customized programs.
