Celebrates Success at Winter Equestrian Festival
Molly Canfield and Donnalaris jumped clear rounds to earn the Low Junior Jumper Championship at the Winter Equestrian Festival.
Wellington, FL - March 11, 2019 – Galway Farm of Long Grove, Illinois, is celebrating some great success at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, Florida, while enjoying a break from the grueling Chicago winter. Previously, trainers Lorrie Canady and Molly McAdow spent some of the winter in Ocala, but this year decided to head to Wellington for a change and it has worked out perfectly for the team.
Rider Molly Canfield of Chicago, rode Donnalaris to the championship in the 1.15m Modified Children’s Jumpers her first week at WEF, only to move up to the 1.20m Low Junior Jumpers the second week to clinch the championship in that division! The pair has been putting in plenty of clean rounds amidst tough competition and huge class numbers, like 95 in a class. Canfield just turned 16 this week and has enjoyed all the opportunities she has had during the circuit, including lessons with top grand prix riders Hunter Holloway and Kevin Babbington along with top equitation trainer, Ken Smith.
“I think it’s been great to come to some tough competition and perform well,” said Canady. “It’s a great experience for everyone to be here and watch Olympians ride and to be in the mix of top hunters and equitation riders. It’s great motivation for our riders to see that and know that they can set higher goals for their own riding.”
Canfield also rode McAdow’s lovely chestnut, Caston, in the younger junior hunters to capture two third place finishes and continued the yellow streak in the 15-17 Equitation on the Flat, also finishing third.

Canfield has also been working on her equitation with Don Stewart’s Gameboy, earning great ribbons including 3rd and 6thin the 15-17 Equitation Over Fences.
"I think it’s amazing to see the world's best riders, on and off their horses," said Canfield. "It's nice to see our sport appreciated with the crowds on Saturday night. It’s a well run show with good technology and communication and the food and shopping are wonderful! We were a little overwhelmed by it all, but people have been so helpful and friendly. Our horses are loving it as well, so nice for them to be out every day in a paddock, or on a trail ride. I hope we will be back next year!"
McAdow put in some great rides on Mary Beth Canfield’s Class Act, earning the championship in the 3’6” Performance Hunters. McAdow and Canfield were honored in the Parade of Champions. McAdow and Canady both piloted Lisa Campbell's Salina K to top ribbons in the USHJA 3' Hunters, with McAdow winning one of the classes.

“The rings are all big and nicely decorated with beautiful jumps so you never feel like your ring isn’t important,” said McAdow. “I love that each ring has it’s own schooling ring used only for horses showing in that ring. I hope we get to come back next year.”
Mary Beth Canfield and Salina K collected top ribbons in the Adult Amateur Hunters during WEF.
Congratulations to Mary Beth Canfield and Salina K, who earned top ribbons in the Adult Amateur Hunters and to Erica O’Neil, who came down for a week, on a job well done with Caprioso 2 in the 15-17 Equitation and the USEF Jumper Seat Medal.

Thanks to Sarah Mechlin Duhon for sharing the Wellington barn with the team and enormous thanks to the Galway staff at home for enduring the frigid temperatures and snow to keep everything running smoothly at home. Galway will stay in Wellington until the middle of March before heading back home.
