George H. Morris Gladstone Program Educates Riders in the Barn and the Ring

Sponsors on Board for More Education in Our Sport

Antioch, IL – June 9, 2014 – Sponsors for the George H. Morris Gladstone Program Training Session June 23-28, 2014 at Annali-Brookwood Farm, are proud to be associated with the education the program brings to future US team members. The training session, coordinated by Diane Carney, provides riders with top-level educators both in and out of the ring. Riders will learn the importance of riding fundamentals from the legendary George H. Morris and flatwork from Anne Kursinski.  Dr. Marvin Beeman from Littleton Equine Medical Center in Colorado will be on hand for his veterinary expertise and farrier Bill Liggett of Woodstock, IL will present shoeing theories. On the business side, Yvonne Ocrant will present business theory and Brenda Mueller of Chicago Equestrian and Phelps Media Group will present “How to Talk to the Media".

Sponsors such as Barrington Saddlery in Barrington, IL have been supportive of the program.

"We continually support and encourage the furthering of education by supporting several clinics and programs throughout the year,” said a Barrington Saddlery representative. “The Gladstone program is no exception, this high level of instruction not only benefits the participants but the many auditors that attend this event and who better to hear it from than the legend that is George H. Morris himself. As for our auditing passes, we will be passing them out to our loyal customers through a fun social media contest."

Millcreek Farm trainer Serah Vogus, of Antioch, IL, is another one of the sponsors handing out passes to her clients who are eager to audit and learn from the legendary Morris.

“Too often we are creating riders who excel in the ring but lack knowledge behind the scenes,” said Vogus. “I’m excited to see the veterans- legends, if you will, supporting the importance of a well educated equestrian. The program is an invaluable experience for the future of our sport.”

Liberty Farm in Lake Forest, IL also strongly supports the Gladstone Program. The father and son team, Steve and Stephen Foran, attend Morris’ clinics frequently.

“I have had the great opportunity to ride in multiple GHM Clinics over the last few years,” said young Stephen. “Morris is the ultimate clinician. He is a master communicator, demonstrator and motivator. Morris teaches you how to be not only a better rider than you were yesterday, but also a better horseman. He has taught me that the detailed care of the horse has to come first and that riders have to ride horses with discipline and empathy. I believe strongly in Morris's classical approach of the American system of riding and horse management.
His dedication to educating the next generation of American Riders will undoubtably develop world class competitive young riders who are also very knowledgeable horseman.”

Credit Suisse is already a supporter of equestrian sports internationally.

“As in banking, success in equestrian sports requires trust and precision teamwork. We cater towards the passions and interests of our clients, including equestrian activities.  Credit Suisse has supported equestrian sports for many years and has been the main sponsor of global platforms: Concours Hippique International de Genève and White Turf in St. Moritz.  We strive to connect like-minded individuals who share similar interests, passions, and motivations. Our hope in supporting Chicago equestrians is to accomplish this on a local, national, and global level,” stated a company representative.

“Credit Suisse has served the wealth management needs of individuals and families since 1856. Our success in the areas of Private Banking & Wealth Management stems from our ability to integrate our capabilities and to adhere to the values that first defined us over 157 years ago: to deliver tailored solutions, to provide exceptional service, and to maintain the highest level of expertise and client focus.”

Chicago Equestrian PR and Marketing is another corporation supporting higher education in the sport.

“The reason ChicagoEquestrian.com was established was to help educate and spread the word about opportunities in the Midwest, Zone 5 area,” said company President, Brenda Mueller. “You can take the example of great riders that came from this area such as Beezie Madden, Kent Farrington and Laura Kraut. As long as the knowledge continues from the upper levels and as long as there are riders eager for the information, we can continue to build strong teams for the U.S. The Gladstone Program and promoters like Diane Carney do just this.”

Nina Moore of Lamplight Equestrian Center is also a fan of building the area and the sport.

“Whenever you can have a program like the Gladstone Program, it’s a great thing for the area and our sport,” said owner Moore.  “George Morris is obviously a top educator and supporter of the sport. The more we can educate riders and trainers the more competitive we can become both locally and internationally.”

Winter Meadow Farm and Jeannine Lamb-Hugi, Mundelein, IL, strongly encourage education at every level. Lamb-Hugi trains all levels in her business from short stirrup to international jumpers and believes education is key, no matter what the length of the stirrup.

“George’s seal of approval gave me the Chef d’Equipe position for the young rider team showing internationally including Dublin & Balivoir, Ireland and Pune, India, providing me international experience,” said Lamb-Hugi. “We are encouraging our riders at any level to take our audit passes and see these top riders. You can learn just as much in the chair as in the saddle.”

Auditors will be able to observe the riding portions of the Gladstone Program beginning on Monday, June 23 at 8:00 am. An added special feature on Monday includes a flatwork demonstration by Anne Kursinski, which is also open to auditors.  Auditors are welcome the remainder of the week from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm daily until Saturday, June 28.  The cost is $75 without a pass.

The purpose of the program is to continue to educate, support and guide riders on the overall knowledge and expertise required to succeed at the top level of show jumping internationally. In addition to daily training sessions with Morris, the riders will participate in hands on sessions with a veterinarian, farrier, a top team stable manager, physiotherapist, and high performance business executive.
