Lexington, KY - November 6, 2016 – Hunter Holloway, 18, completed her stellar junior career by accomplishing double-header equitation victories in the final weeks of the 2016 show season. Last week, Holloway won the prestigious Washington International Equitation Championship at the Washington International Horse Show. This week, she topped off her banner year by earning top honors in the coveted 2016 ASPCA/Maclay National Championship, presented by Chansonette Farm, at the CP National Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky.

Holloway of Topeka, Kansas, rode her way to the top of the esteemed group of 175 qualified riders on C’est La Vie, her mount for the 2016 Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent Search Finals – East, where she placed ninth. Owned by Anna Novo-Gradac, the horse previously showed in the Children’s hunters before it’s debut in the equitation ring last month.

Holloway completed the exercises created by judges Diane Carney and Rachel Kennedy, doing what she does every day – riding. With a test built into the second round, Holloway proved to be the clear winner without further testing, as she passed the counter canter and trot jump exercises with flying colors.

Holloway was presented the ASPCA Horsemanship Trophy, donated by the late Alfred B. Maclay, where her name will be added to the list of some of the biggest names in the sport including George Morris, William Steinkraus, Frank Chapot and Leslie Burr Howard to name a few. The Gordon Wright Perpetual Trophy was awarded to the Holloway family with Don Stewart receiving The Maclay National Championship Trainer Award, donated by the Walker Family.

In addition to the top training she receives from Don Stewart, Holloway credits her mother, grand prix rider Brandie Holloway, for her years of training since she was a toddler, as the keys to her success. The mother daughter duo continues to earn top ribbons in the grand prixs, including Brandie’s recent third place on Lucky Strike in the HITS $1 Million Grand Prix in Saugerties this year.

Based out of Topeka, Kansas and HITS Ocala during the winter at their Equi-Venture Farm, the family breeds and develops young horses in addition to a large selection of sale horses. There is never a shortage of horses for Holloway to ride, part of the secret to her success. She is a hard worker both in the saddle and in the barn, which helped her learn some of the “Horse IQ” Carney indicated was required to win the Maclay Championship.

“The winner of the Maclay is a rider that with invisible aids, demonstrates the five factors of jumping; pace, line, balance, impulsion and distance. Hunter was the example of that through all three phases, especially in the counter canter part of the second course because any body watching saw her ride out of the three stride, she went straight and let the ring turn her horse which allowed him to land on the counter lead and hold it. She executed that the best - in addition to riding the rest of the course and having impeccable position,” said Carney. “I might add that she did the rest of the course with pace and gallop. This is why she is able to win on the hunters, jumpers and the Maclay.”

“Its such an honor to win such a prestigious class, and I couldn't have been happier with how today went and my horse performed,” said Holloway. “I really want to thank the Don Stewart team and my family for supporting me along the way.”

The Holloway’s will take some time off at home before heading to the Chicago George Morris clinic and then to Ocala for the winter. Hunter will continue her education with online school while working on developing her string of jumpers.
