It's All Family at the Goldman's Red Coat Farm

Trainer Mary Goldlman and daughter/rider Lisa Goldman are no strangers to the winners circle.

Hawthorn Woods, IL – December 4, 2015 - Mary Goldman and her daughter Lisa, have owned and managed Red Coat Farm in Hawthorn Woods, IL for over twenty years. To describe what the farm emphasizes would be simply – family.  Mary brought Lisa up from the ponies, to the junior and amateurs during college to now, where they function as a professional team. Lisa and her mother are close, traveling around the country competing in the Grand Prixs with their own horses and taking customers to the ring with huge success. Lisa has numerous Grand Prix wins on her record with her mounts Morrocco and Centurion B.

Red Coat Farm had riders in the USHJA Children's Adult Jumper Championships.

Red Coat Farm not only has a show team that attends Premiere National horse shows around the country, but they also have a riding school and participate in local Northern Illinois Hunter Jumper Association (NIHJA) shows. Just as Mary raised Lisa, she also raised her assistant trainers, Val  Buesching and Sari Polakow, training them as junior riders and teaching them horsemanship skills.  Also on staff and experienced is Judy McDonald, who holds many of the camps and hosts birthday parties as well. The result is a team that works well together, raising riders from beginners to national champions with the same philosophy.

“Everyone has to start somewhere,” said Mary. “We all started in the barn learning how to tack up and brush lesson horses. Horsemanship is an important part of learning how to ride.”

That idealogy earned Mary the 2010 Iliinois Hunter Jumper Association’s Horseperson of the year award. Staying true to those concepts, the farm offers multiple summer camps and pony club activities that everyone can participate in, whether they own a horse or not. Private and group lessons are available for all levels – from getting on a horse for the first time to training for a Grand Prix. The lesson program is flexible, offering lesson times 7 days a week in the hunter, jumper, and equitation disciplines.

There's a place for everyone and every level at Red Coat Farm.

Red Coat Farm has plenty to get involved in including short term leases of lesson horses, offering the chance to see what it’s like to own a horse and what it costs. The farm also hosts several on-site shows annually, both schooling and NIHJA circuit shows.  In addition, the farm provides educational and entertainment opportunities for large groups, girl scouts and clubs.

The secret to the success of the business is their ability to monitor a rider’s program from their first moment in the saddle to their success in the show ring. The proof is in their show results, qualifying riders for the major medal finals, earning medals in the Children’s Adult Jumper Championships where they won the gold medal, and having riders participate on a national level in programs such as the United States Hunter Jumper Association’s ( USHJA) Emerging Athletes Program and the USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge. On the local level, the farm has earned multiple NIHJA Horse and Trainer of the Year Awards as well as helping riders earn their first show ribbons ever.
