Hott Horse Shows at Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center wrapped up two successful weeks of AA competition Sunday, August 19th that included two Grand Prix, a $10,000 USHJA Hunter Derby, a $2,500 Pro-Am Hunter Derby, Purina Mills’ weekend, a gala to benefit the Animal Rescue League and the inaugural Linback and Woodrun Exhibitor Party!  Coulter Horse Transportation joined the roster of sponsors for the 2012 show season and Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center welcomed many new faces to the world class show grounds.

Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center and Hott Horse Shows Summer Festival I at Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center commenced August 8 and welcomed a record number of participants to the show grounds.  Laura Linback of Mundelein, Illinois galloped away with the win in the $25,000 Harley Hott Grand Prix on Saturday, August 11 while Minnesotan Kim Barone earned the honors of winning the $25,000 Purina Mills Grand Prix aboard Rival owned by Raven Ridge Farm on Saturday Week II.   “It is a pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful event and on behalf of Purina Animal Nutrition, I would like to thank all riders and Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center for your business and trusting us with the care of your horses,” said Chris Ludlow, Feed Specialist for Purina Mills. “Congratulations to everyone who was able to participate and special congratulations to the event class winners:  Great job Kim Barone for your win of the Purina Galloping Grand Prix and to your horse Rival, fueled by Purina!” she added.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa held a gala event during the $25,000 Purina Mills Galloping Grand Prix in an effort to raise money for the thousands of homeless animals in Iowa.  Signature Events and Grants Coordinator Lora Rogers of the Animal Rescue League said, “The Purina Mills Galloping Grand Prix fund raising event was a huge success this year.  We hosted more than 175 guests and raised approximately $9,000.00 that evening.  We couldn’t have done it without the help of the folks at Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center. On behalf of the animals we serve, many thanks to all of the fine people at the show!” she added.

Week I welcomed Dan Urban from Elkhorn, Nebraska riding Cousteau to the winner’s circle for the $10,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby and Week II saw Kyle Dewar and Tess Fortune of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin take the win in the $2,500 Pro-Am Hunter Derby that had the crowd on their feet.  Part one of the inaugural $2,500 Pro-Am Hunter Derby ran like a classic and the second half was a handy round.  Rider one would ride in while rider two stood by waiting to the take the reins for the handy round.  “It was really fun and everyone had a great time,” said Libby Hott, owner of Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center.    “We plan on hosting another fun class during the fall shows—a Ride and Drive!  There will be a jumper course followed by a driving course-fastest time and least amount of faults wins!”

Hott Horse Shows will return to Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center for its Grand Finale September 19-30 to close out the show season with the Madison County Fall Classic and Challenge.  The fall shows will also feature the new hunter and sporthorse breeding classes and will continue with reduced entry fees.  Two Grand Prix, a $5,000 USHJA Hunter Derby and the $2,500 Ride and Drive will round out the roster of classes and in typical Maffitt Lake fashion, the exhibitor parties will take center stage in the VIP Pavilion as the sun sets on the spectacular Maffitt Lake show grounds.
