USEF Lettering Program

LETTERING PROGRAM

You don’t have to be a record setting quarterback, point guard or track star to letter in junior high or high school sports anymore. The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is writing a new chapter in the recognition of student athletes – one that honors Equestrians.

The USEF Equestrian Athlete Lettering Program is open to equestrian athletes in all breeds or disciplines who are currently members of USEF or become USEF members. Students participating in the program need to record 100 hours of riding or training and three competitions of any level or type to complete the requirements for that year. The program runs from June 1-May 31 of each year and will honor those who document their training and competition involvement by awarding emblems and pins.

Students currently in grades 5-8 are eligible to participate in the USEF Junior High School Equestrian Athlete Program.

Students currently in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in the USEF High School Equestrian Athlete Program.

SCHOOL RIDING PROGRAMS

As many students know, there is not always time for other sports or extracurricular activities when you ride horses. Fortunately, many schools are now starting to incorporate horseback riding into their offered activities. Throughout the country various high school riding associations have developed to promote equestrian riding teams and clubs to junior, middle and high schools.

To find out more about these or to learn how to start your own equestrian riding team or club, read our guide to Equestrian Riding Programs—Overview for Middle, Junior High, and High School Students, or click here for a printable version.
