Wayne, IL – June 13, 2013 – Showplace Productions’ Spring Spectacular II at Lamplight Equestrian Center was still buzzing from their Derby Day when the professionals hit the ring again. The Skip Bailey courses still had that derby feel to them as week two commenced.
In the Green Conformation, C’Est La Vie, owned by Lilly Reyes and ridden by Russell Frey, won the model and four out of the five classes to claim the Championship. Talon, owned by Meg Gehron won an over fences and was right behind Russell, placing second in every class with Freddie Vasquez aboard for the Reserve.
In the First Year Green Hunters, Maggie Bracco and Pony Lane Farm’s Bugsy Malone took the Championship, winning two of the over fences including the handy. Bugsy Malone is six-year-old Holsteiner shown in the small juniors with Maddie Thatcher aboard.
“Bugsy is amazing,” claimed Bracco. “Huge jump in a little horse! He tries to win every round and he loves showing.”
Showing at Lamplight is easy for Bracco and their family since their Our Day Farm is just a few minutes away.
Cookie Beck, of Mequon, WI, with Rendezvous Farm’s Shadow was Reserve Champion. Beck also won top ribbons on her other mounts, Fhinancier, who won the First Year Green Under Saddle, and Prologue, all owned by Rendezvous Farm.
In the Second Year Greens, it was Quintero’s Silhouette owned by Kira Telford and ridden by Freddie Vasquez, of Mettawa, IL, who took the Championship. Tilford also shows the 11-year-old warmblood in the small junior hunters.
Maggie Bracco and Pony Lane Farm’s Fredrick were the Reserve Champions. Kelsey Thatcher also shows the Belgian warmblood in the younger Amateur Owner division. Bracco was Champion on the horse last week at Spring Spectacular I.
Maggie’s sister, Haylie Jayne Rolfe, was Champion in the High Performance Hunters with Pony Lane Farm’s Summer Place. Very close behind was Shannon Kelly’s Trust Me with Tina Judge, of Naperville, IL, aboard.
Performance Working Hunters
In the 3’3” Performance Working Hunters, it was Connelly and Kathleen Caya who came out on top. Connelly, owned by Susan Schmitt was the winner of the USHJA National Hunter Derby on Tuesday with Caya, of Oconomowoc, WI.
Reserve was Granted Wish, owned by Helen Lindsay and ridden by Caitlyn Shiels. Shiels, originally from Sheffield, MA, now lives in Hampshire, IL to ride for Canterbury Farm and just celebrated her 30th Birthday.
Shiels also rode Kenya to the Championship in the 3’6” Performance Hunters. Kenya is owned by Michelle Durpetti, of Chicago, who also shows the horse in the Amateur Owner Hunters. Reserve went to Ariano, owned by Brooke Saltzman and ridden by Lisa Goldman of Hawthorn Woods, IL.
Pre-Green Working Hunters
Shiels continued her streak, winning three classes in the 3’3” Pre-Greens and the $2,500 Pre-Green Classic aboard Marcia Franklin’s Cydell. Cydell is a Popeye K baby that the Franklin’s bred and raised.
“She’s really matured, even since Ocala,” trainer Greg Franklin, Hampshire, IL stated. Franklin spent the winter months in Ocala showing the six-year-old mare.
Reserve went to Maria Rasmussen and Showcase Limited’s Java.
Don’t Tell, owned by Jennifer Jones and ridden by Courtenay Billings was the Champion in the 3’ Pre-Green Working Hunters and Nina Donnelly’s Barina with rider Molly McAdow was Reserve.
Competition continues at the Lamplight Equestrian Center featuring the Showplace Productions’ $30,000 Barrington Saddlery Grand Prix and a $5,000 Junior/Amateur Gambler’s Choice.
