George H. Morris to Judge Michigan Medal Finals Followed by USHJA Trainer Certification Clinic

Temperance, MI – August 20, 2014 – Scott Alder of Temperance, MI with Stoney Ridge Farm and the Michigan Hunter Jumper Association, have arranged to have the legendary George H. Morris judge their 2014 Medal Finals and give a three-day USHJA Trainer Certification clinic. The show features the medal championships for all levels and will be held August 29-31, 2014 with the clinic and USHJA Trainer Certification following on September 1-3, 2014 at Hunter’s Run Stables.
In addition to Morris, Alder has gathered the most prestigious judges panel a local horse show has ever seen. The panel includes Susan Bauer-Pinckney of Lexington, KY, who was one of Morris’ first students along with Diane Carney of Antioch, IL, also a former student of Morris’ and one of the driving forces behind the establishment of the hunter derbies.
Morris’ resume is filled with successes including being the youngest rider on record to win both the AHSA Medal and the ASPCA Maclay at the age of 14, winning the team gold medal in the 1959 Pan American Games, winning the team silver medal in the 1960 Rome Olympics and winning the biggest purse in history in the Spruce Meadows du Maurier International Grand Prix on Rio in 1988. Morris has trained numerous riders to medal final wins and as Chef d’Equipe, coached the US Team to the gold medal at the Hong Kong Olympics and coached the 2006 US Team to the silver medal in the World Equestrian Games.
In addition to coaching and training, Morris, also known as the founding father of the forward seat, is the author of numerous books including Hunter Seat Equitation. Morris now teaches his principles across the country to develop young riders and future teams. His clinics include the Horsemastership Program and the Gladstone Program, where overall horsemanship is emphasized.
Bauer-Pinckney is a former student of Morris’, earning sixth in the Maclay Finals in 1964 and second in 1965. She married Ronnie Mutch and together ran Nimrod Farm in CT. Mutch and Bauer-Pinckney trained seven national equitation winners and numerous 'Horse of the Year' award winning hunters like Holy Smoke and 20th Century, Ltd. Bauer-Pinckney is also a National Sidesaddle Champion, a USEF R HU/EQ judge and sells real estate in Kentucky.
Carney is also a former student of Morris', earning multiple Grand Prix wins and numerous top ribbons at Spruce Meadows, National Hunter Championships and Horse of  the Year Awards. Carney was named the Illinois Hunter Jumper Association Horseperson of the Year in 2008 and has trained top medal riders, top junior and amateur riders and top Grand Prix riders. She is known for dedication to horsemanship and her ability to give back to the industry. She hosts the George H. Morris Clinic in Chicago annually and has done so for 25 years and this year hosted the George H. Morris Gladstone Program at Annali-Brookwood Farm in Antioch, IL. Carney is also a USEF R HU/EQ/JU judge.
The horse show will be hosting the Bareback Equitation Challenge on Friday. Spectators and riders can enjoy the Pizza Party during this entertaining and educational competition.
On Saturday evening, the $1,000 Stoney Ridge Farm Hunter Derby takes place in the Main Hunter Ring. Riders will compete over a traditional fox hunt-type course with the top 12 riders returning to compete in a Handy Hunter round. The famous Taco Bar will be open for spectators and riders as well.
Sunday morning is the highly competitive MHJA Medal Finals with divisions for Open, Limit, and Young Riders. Entries will compete over special courses with additional testing to determine the Medal Champion in their respective divisions.
The competition should be truly a one of a kind opportunity for spectators and riders with the prestigious panel at the helm. The judges will also choose the Best Medal Horse to be awarded the “Mary Bonisteel Alder Memorial Trophy".
Monday, September 1st will be the first day of the George H. Morris Clinic. Group times are:
9:00am – 11:00am 2’9”-3’
11:00am – 1:00pm 3’-3’3”
2:30pm – 4:30pm 3’6” and up
Auditors are welcome for $75per day. USHJA Trainer Certification is an additional one time $50.00 fee.
