Roscoe, IL-July 14, 2013- A gorgeous afternoon at Ledges Sporting Horses welcomed riders and spectators to the $25,000 WeatherTech Grand Prix. The course designed by Héctor J. Loyola invited twelve competitors for a first round followed by a jump-off in the Grand Prix ring. The first round course included both tight and wide rollbacks, a one-stride Chicago Equestrian vertical to an oxer, a five-stride line, and ended on a triple combination towards home.
Jumping penalties and time faults effectively eliminated seven of the competitors from advancing to the jump-off. The time allowed for the first round was set at 84.50 seconds and this time was definitely a challenge for four of the riders whose penalties ranged between three and eight time faults. There did not appear to be any particular fence that resulted in a rail coming down for a penalty.
Lisa Goldman and Zacantos Z had a rail down at fence five which was the in of a five stride line. Despite the rail, Goldman and Zacantos Z were the fastest four fault pair and also had the fastest time of the first round at 81.004 seconds. Katherine Dewar and P.M. Jackpot found a similar fate as Goldman when the pair had a rail at fence seven but a time of 81.810 seconds. The fastest clean round of the first round was a time of 82.214 seconds by Roderick Kyle Dewar and Dominant De Muze who also qualified for the jump-off with Alma and a time of 83.894 seconds. Lisa Goldman and Centurion B completed a solid first round in 82.758 seconds.

The jump-off round invited back only five entries to navigate Loyola’s course. Dewar and his two entries were joined by Joshua VanderVeen and Bull Run’s Pistol Pete, Liz Atkins and Undine, and Lisa Goldman and Centurion B. The jump-off began at an Animo oxer with a rollback to a horseflight oxer. A one stride followed with a rollback to a CWD oxer, over to a THIS vertical, a quick left hand turn to an orange vertical, and a gallop to the finish on a WeatherTech oxer towards the in gate.

Dewar and Alma led off the jump-off with a clean round of 42.839 seconds. VanderVeen and Atkins followed but both knocked down a rail at the CWD fence. Dewar and Dominant De Muze had a rail at fence fourteen but managed to secure the fastest four-fault time of 41.827 seconds. Goldman and Centurion B saved the best for last and traveled around the course quickly and smoothly without any faults and a winning time of 40.688.
“She was terrific. It was a great comeback after we had a fall in the schooling ring,” said Mary Goldman of Lisa and Centurion B.
“I always love Hector’s courses and we did really well. The weather was good today, the management is great, and we’ve had a great week here,” said Lisa Goldman.
Lisa and Centurion B have proven their success with a win in Friday’s $5,000 Open Welcome Stake now joined by their win today. The pair also won the $5,000 Open Welcome as well as the $15,000 WeatherTech Grand Prix during the Showplace Summer Classic. Goldman and Centurion B have previously secured outstanding wins at HITS Ocala and more information on the exciting duo can be found in this Chicago Equestrian article.
