Local Equestrian Heads to Nationals

Caitlin Boyle received the Monica Fowler Memorial Equitation Trophy at Showplace Spring Spectacular.

Wayne, IL - Becoming a contender at the national level does not come easily. Starting three years ago, local Chicago rider, Caitlin Boyle, of Hampshire, took on this journey.  Boyle, is now a fifteen-year-old sophomore at Jacobs High School and has already attended four different national competitions and keeps striving for more. This year she has already qualified for three of the National Equitation Finals with her current equitation mount, “Go For Broke”, or “Gopher”.  She plans to attend all three of these finals in the fall, with an ultimate goal of placing in the top six ribbons at any one of these national competitions.

When in the show ring, Boyle and “Go For Broke” are all business but back in the barn, they spend time together bonding and creating a partnership.  According to Boyle, she has spent lots of time “behind the scenes” and has come to know the tendencies of her mount.  She says that while he seems focused and determined on course, when he is in the barn he, “whinnies to his horse friends and he whinnies when he wants treats”.

Up until the closing dates for these three finals, Boyle will continue to compete to keep earning points and experience.  At the recent Showplace Spring Spectacular Show, Caitlin had a fantastic two weeks winning the Monica Fowler Memorial Equitation Trophy for the High Point Equitation rider. Boyle also won the $5,000 Children's Jumper Classic on "Keepen Posted" and won the $500 Children's Hunter Classic on  "Lazy River".
