St. Louis, MO - September 14, 2020 - The St. Louis National Charity Horse Show hosted another fantastic year at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis, MO, September 9-13, 2020, featuring the $30,000 Mary Kierle Grand Prix and the $5,000 3' Hunter Derby. The show also held the popular $1,500 2'6" Hunter Derby, the $5,000 Welcome Stake, and the Region 5 ASPCA Maclay Championships, judged by Tom Brennan and Keri Kampsen.

Hunter Holloway of Topeka, KS, reclaimed the grand prix trophy with Ciao Bella S, owned by Hayes Investments, topping the class with the fastest round and the win in the $30,000 Mary Kierle Grand Prix. Holloway has won the grand prix numerous times with other mounts like her VDL Bravo S, who placed sixth this year. Ciao Bella was imported in December from the Van Straaten family and has been showing in the 1.30m - 1.40m divisions. The pair came off of two second place finishes in the $10,000 1.40m Classics in Saugerties and Holloway hopes to have the mare in her FEI group by end of the year or early next season.
"St. Louis is a fun horse show. We look forward to it every year," said Holloway. "They do such a good job so we make sure it's on our schedule for the season."
David Beisel and Essince W jumped to take home second place in the $30,000 Mary Kierle Grand Prix.
David Beisel and Essince W finished in second place and Sean Jobin with Banco Du Moulin rounded out the top three spots. Beisel, of Goshen, OH, and Essince W have two grand prix wins from the World Equestrian Center - Ohio this year and recently won the 1.30m Jumper Prix at Brave Horse VI in August.
David Beisel and For Sunday galloped to the top spot in the $5,000 Welcome Stake.
Earlier in the week, Beisel and For Sunday galloped to the win in the $5,000 Welcome Stake. For Sunday is a ten-year-old, Dutch Warmblood, mare, owned by Harlow Investments. The horse has won several Futures Prix classes with Beisel at the World Equestrian Center in Ohio and numerous 1.30m - 1.35m Jumper Championships across the country including Ocala and the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival. For Sunday also placed fifth in Sunday's grand prix.
The show features the $5,000 3’ Hunter Derby, which was won by Cirabati, ridden by Kyle Muckler.
The hunters had their time to shine as well in the $,5000 3' Hunter Derby. The top scores in the two-round event went to Cirabati, ridden by Kyle Muckler of Des Moines, IA, and owned by Mary Wickman. Thirty-nine entries took a swing at the chance to walk away with the top prize but it was Muckler who lead the class with a score of 88 after going 14th in the order in the first round. Returning for the handy, Muckler and Cirabati collected an 84 for the win.
"The handy round didn’t leave a lot of really handy options besides an inside turn after the first jump, so I tried to make it as smooth and forward as I could. He was great after the first turn, so I just stayed on the canter and he jumped great. He’s a really handy horse and good at galloping the jumps, so I knew if we nailed the trot jump we’d be sitting pretty good," said Muckler about his round.
Inescapable and Katie Kantrovitz came in second with Madeline Nagel and Trusted following for third place.
Miss Delilah and Madison Brooks won the $1,500 2'6" Hunter Derby.
The popular $1,500 2'6" Hunter Derby left Miss Delilah and Madison Brookswith the blue ribbon out of thirty participants. All Inclusive with Caroline Alexander aboard finished in second place with City Limits and Brianna Murrayin third.
Elizabeth Nestor aboard At Last claimed the victory in the Region 5 ASPCA/Maclay Regional Finals.
Although the pandemic created a new look and feel for the Region 5 ASPCA/Maclay Regional Finals, Elizabeth Nestor of St. Louis, MO, claimed victory aboard the Mechlenburg gelding, At Last. Nestor trains with Katana Kennedy O'Brien in the St. Louis area and rode to the win on home turf. Ainsley Wade took second place with Zoe Scheffer in third, followed by Audra Buehler, Ava Todd, Isaella Shelton, Ashlyn Danna, Gwendolyn McCormich, Samatha Meyer, Erin Higgins, and Cadence Kueker. Qualified finalists will head to the championships, which are held at the Kentucky Horse Park during the National Horse Show on November 1, 2020.
Charities Benefit
Since 1856, the St. Louis National Charity Horse Show has brought together thousands of the best equestrians and equines to compete in this horse show. The event helps to support the efforts of two of the region’s charities: TREE House of Greater St. Louis and Stray Rescue of St. Louis, donating more than $115,000 over the past several years.
