WCHR Week Continues at Showplace Productions Spring Spectacular III as Junior Riders Kick Off Competition

Equitation Riders Qualify for Showplace Equitation Championship

Shelby Long won the ASPCA Maclay Medal, qualifying for the Showplace Equitation Championship set to take place Sunday.

Wayne, IL - June 20, 2014 - Equitation and Junior Hunter riders took to the Wisconsin Equine Hunter ring for the WIHS Hunter Phase, the ASPCA Maclay Medal and the first day for Junior Hunters as World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) week continues at Showplace Productions' Spring Spectacular III. Pat Boyle's WCHR Event allows riders to accumulate points toward WCHR standings. Members are wearing scarlet armbands to promote the program throughout the week.

Starting off the day with the ASPCA Maclay Medal win was Shelby Long of Clarendon Hills, IL. Second went to Izabelle Quadracci of Hartland, WI and third to Olivia Lawton of Burr Ridge, IL. A top three placing in the Maclay qualifies riders for the Showplace Equitation Championship on Sunday. Riders will compete in the class without the assistance of trainers throughout all phases of the class.

The WIHS Hunter and Jumper Phases also qualifies riders for Sunday's Championship. Qualifying from the WIHS Jumper Phase held in the LUXMAX USA Grand Prix ring today was Elizabeth Adelson of Tulsa, OK, with a score of 86.

Shelby Long was second with an 85 and Louisa Brackett of Grayslake, IL, was third. In the Hunter Phase, it was Louisa Brackett winning with an 85 and an overall of 168. Second was Kirkland Peterson and third Elizabeth Adelson with a total of 169, taking the overall win in the WIHS Equitation Class.

Junior Hunters

Small Junior Hunters had two over fences rounds today plus an under saddle. WCHR week brought new faces to the Chicago area all sporting the scarlet WCHR armbands. Winning the first over fences was Pen Name, owned by Kensel LLC and ridden by Kirklin Peterson. Winning the second class was Ransom and Vivian Yowan of Lexington, KY, who also won the under saddle.

Vivian Yowan and Parker won both Large Junior Hunter classes in section A

"This is my first time here," said Yowan. "It's really nice. The rings are great and the footing is good so I really like it so far."

Yowan is registered with the WCHR program and will be accumulating points toward the WCHR standings. She has had Ransom almost a year and also has a Large Junior Hunter, Parker. Yowan's trainer Tim Goguen was Champion in the First Year Green Hunters with Ransom this week as well.

Yowan talked about Ransom saying, "He's really scopey and careful. He tries really hard every time he goes in the ring."

The Large Junior Hunters were combined and California split with Yowan's Large Junior, Parker winning both over fences classes in section A. Well Versed and Emily Ablin of Highland Park, IL.won both over fences classes in Section B is also a WCHR member participating in the program.

Emily Ablin and Well Versed won both Large Junior Hunter classes in section B and Showplace Spring Spectacular III WCHR Week

"I didn't know they were California splitting it when we jogged so I was surprised when they handed me the blue," said Ablin. "My horse went really well. He had a rub in the first class and was perfect in the second. We just got him week seven of WEF so we're getting better each time. This is our fourth show. He did the derby this week with Meagan (Murray) and was awesome."

Taking the second in both classes of section A was Summer Place and Maddy Thatcher.

Making it a double header in the 3'3" Junior Hunters was Brego with Hailey Livingston of Springhill, KS. Taking both red ribbons was Elphaba with Aelin Hill.
